Boarding FAQs
Can I bring my dog for a visit before their first stay?
Absolutely! We encourage all new boarding clients to schedule a "Meet & Greet" visit. This allows your dog to explore our yard, get comfortable with the environment, and meet us while we discuss the details of their upcoming stay. Since we host dogs in our family home, we kindly ask that all visits be scheduled in advance. Click here to schedule your visit right away!
Do you have breed, size or age restrictions?
We love dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes! However, for safety reasons, we are unable to board toy breeds or dogs that are under 25 lbs when fully grown.
Puppies expected to exceed 25 lbs as adults are encouraged to start coming as early as possible to get familiar with us and feel comfortable in our environment.
What do I send with my dog for boarding?
For your dog’s stay with us, please bring their food from home and any medications they may need. To help your dog feel as comfortable as possible, especially during their first stay, we recommend bringing their bed or a blanket that smells like home. These familiar items can make the transition smoother and more enjoyable for your pup.
Where will my dog sleep?
Our goal is to be a true home away from home for your dog. We do our best to stick to their routine to make their stay as comfortable and stress-free as possible. If your dog is used to sleeping on their dog bed on the floor of your bedroom, we’ll accommodate them in the same way. If they sleep in a crate at night, we’ll maintain the same boundaries and structure you have at home. Consistency is key to helping your dog feel safe and secure while they’re with us.
Will my dog be in a kennel?
We take pride in offering a free-range boarding experience where dogs can roam and relax without being confined. Unless your dog requires separation due to fear or aggression, they will not be caged during their stay. If your dog has never been in a crate, we will not introduce one unless you ask us to. For dogs who are crate trained and feel more comfortable with access to a crate, or for safety reasons need to be crated at night or when alone, we have a variety of options to ensure their comfort.
If my dog doesn't like other dogs can he stay with you?
Yes! We have options available to accommodate your dog, regardless of their behavioral needs. For safety, any dog we feel may pose a danger to other dogs will be kept separated. If we determine that your dog cannot be safely handled during their stay, we will require a training program to be included during their first visit to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.
Will my dog get playtime?
Of course! If your dog loves to play, they’ll have endless opportunities to do so. We let dogs choose how they spend their time, whether it’s playing in our secure yard with their new friends or lounging inside the house for some relaxation. Your dog’s comfort and happiness are always our priority.
How many dogs do you take at once?
We limit our boarding to 10 dogs and our training stays to 2 dogs at a time to ensure every dog receives the safest and most personalized experience possible. This allows us to provide the attention, care, and structure that each dog deserves.
What Our Pack Parents Say
Real Stories of Trust and Care
At BrightStar Canine, every dog who stays with us becomes part of our family. Whether they’re here for a cozy stay in our home or a transformative training experience, we take pride in ensuring they feel safe, loved, and well cared for. But don’t just take our word for it, see what our clients have to say about their BrightStar experience.
"My yellow lab loves it here!! When we get to the gate, she is excited because she knows what is to come. There are other dogs for her to play with and it is a welcoming scene. It is fully fenced so you do not have to worry about anything, and she loves to play with the other dogs and learn to behave around all of them. We were so lucky to have found this place and have boarded her there many times and will continue to do so."
"BrightStar Canine is amazing, we discovered them this summer. Kim is kind, professional, flexible and really loves on your pups. They always come back happy and tired :) We have boarded our two large breed dogs there off and on a few times this summer and in the fall. We feel very lucky to have found this place for our fur babies. :)"
"Our dog has been to stay here twice and each time he has been well taken care of and comes home happy and tired. I love that he gets to run around and have lots of play time with other dogs while we are gone. Kimberly has a set up to meet specific dog needs too which is great. We will definitely be bringing our pup back in the future!"
"We had our two dogs boarded with Kim over Thanksgiving weekend and were really glad to have found her! Our puppy was only about 5 months at the time but it was no problem for Kim. We needed a kennel in the Camas area and we aren’t super fond of larger run board and daycare facilities. This feels like dropping your dogs off with a friend or family. She treats your dogs like her own! I also appreciate the training background Kim, it’s a little extra reassurance your dog is in good hands. Will use again if ever staying in the area!"
"Kimberly did a great job boarding our dog. She was very responsive and sent consistent photos/videos of our dog playing. Happy to recommend her services."
"I board my pup with Kimberly at least once or twice a year often over a week at a time. I have never had issues with responsiveness. My dog is fairly skittish, and does not adapt well to many settings. Its a blessing to have someone like Kim to meet my pup's needs."
"Kimberly is awesome when it comes to watching and caring for your dogs. I got updates on how the dogs were doing and they came back very happy. I would highly recommend her if you ever need your dogs watched."
"My dog loves BrightStar Canine and I know that she is in good hands while I’m away!"
